V.C. Wynne-Edwards
From EvoWiki
Vero C. Wynne-Edwards (1906-1997) was a British zoologist. Between 1946 and 1974 he was Regius Professor of Natural History at the University of Aberdeen.
Wynne-Edwards proposed a theory of group selection which was dismissed by most students of evolution (cf. Dawkins 1976). However, dissatisfaction with kin selection and reciprocal altruism as adequate accounts of altruism has led some zoologists to propose an updated version of Wynne-Edwards' hypothesis (see Wilson & Sober, 1994; Sober & Wilson, 1998)
