Not sure if I'm to reply to you here, or on my page, as I'm quite new to this Wiki business. In any case, I posted my reply there. I also don't know how to timestamp this, although I did manage to figure out how to get my username to show up, so please disregard my complete lack of knowledge. --KeithJM

Scientific Artwork

What sort of artwork can you do? I wondering if we could get some pictures for our Encylopedia of Anatomy, especially skeletons of animals (like birds, lizards and hominids). If it's not your style, don't worry, I'll find some from elsewhere. Just thought I'd ask. --Doddy 01:31, 2 April 2007 (BST)

I don't feel comfortable enough with the accuracy of anatomical art, sorry. Reconstructions, on the other hand, let me use enough artistic licence to keep me comfortable.--Mr A. 02:51, 2 April 2007 (BST)
Never mind. I'll grab some from Wikimedia Commons (they are under CC licensing there, like us). By the way, can you reinstate some of the links I removed on the Dragons were Dinosaurs page (and the talk page)? Stupid spam filter caught them. --Doddy 09:46, 2 April 2007 (BST)
I'm still trying to fix the aol link, but the Celtic dragons one is broken.--Mr A. 14:16, 2 April 2007 (BST)

Vandal Protection Upgrade

Here's my suggestion and a question. Haven't you noticed how the normal wikipedia has special upgrades where nowadays one has an easy time protecting pages by adding special templates onto pages that has been victimised by spammers frequently as well as in the edit section has a special table where one can choose any symbol they want? Normal wikipedia does have such upgrades. I think the problem is that evowiki has not been upgraded at all. Have anyone out there consider upgrading evowiki to have such upgraded as seen on wikipedia? Why don't we upgrade and update evowiki to have anti-spam/anti-vandal templates, a table where we can choose special symbols without having to go to normal wikipedia site to get them, and all other upgrades normal wikipedia has, including have an option where one can upload images for use in the article we write for this site. What do you say about that?--Crazyharp81602 17:19, 19 August 2006 (BST)

That sounds like a great idea... We just need to figure out how to upgrade Evowiki's programming to match Wikipedia's programming. Perhaps we should speak to Steinsky about this.--Mr A. 19:41, 19 August 2006 (BST)

adminstrator/sysops

how many edits do i need to become an administrator or syops? I have 118 edits now--Fang 23 17:40, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it doesn't depend on how many edits you've made, otherwise I'd have become Archbishop of this site long ago. You can ask Steinsky on his talkpage, and nominate yourself to be an administrator or sysops.--Mr A. 17:50, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Deleting pages

Is there any reason why you're blanking rather than deleting pages? Joe (t) 19:20, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Because I'm not an administrator and have no direct access to the delete option?--Mr A. 21:28, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
There is no delete link at the top of pages? It should have appeared months ago, when you were made an admin! I'll check the users table.. Joe (t) 13:11, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Hrm. Obviously didn't work properly. Should be there now. Joe (t) 13:12, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the upgrade!--Mr A. 14:12, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Vandal proof

apokryltaros i think we REALLY NEED vandal proof.--Fang 23 04:15, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, yes we do. We need to conference with steinsky immediately--Mr A. 04:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

When are we going to confrence with steinsky about vandal proof?--Fang 23 23:12, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

When he comes back, unfortunately.--Mr A. 23:47, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
But when will he be coming back?--Fang 23 23:49, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't know, honestly. I think he checks back about once a month.--Mr A. 00:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

When did he last leave?--Fang 23 00:12, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

You could try looking at his contributions. I'm not his nanny, mind you.--Mr A. 01:59, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: spam filter

OK, I've fixed the "specialist" problem. I'm not entirely sure what the second request is about! Joe (t) 19:45, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Filter Privileges

Why is it that you, Mr A, can edit pages without the spam filter blocking you, but I can't? I'm an admin!--Doddy 07:49, 19 August 2007 (BST)

regarding the troll-vandal

The troll vandal 4.158.60.37 that you blocked yesterday seems to be a sockpuppet of a troll and vandal who has been vandalising and trolling in evowiki with a dynamic ip address seince march 2006 and making making the same inflammatory edits seince then. I believe if we can block all ip addresses in the 4.xxx range wich appear to be used for no other purpose than trolling and vandalism we can stop this person from doing any further damage to EvoWiki.--Fang 23 19:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

The evidence for this user being a sockpuppet of a long term troll-vandal is shown here.

Then we should figure out a way to block this dynamic IP.--Mr A. 19:35, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I did a WHOIS search on these ip addresses at [http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=4.158.60.37 and found out that our "troll-vandal's" internet service provider is Level 3 Communications, Inc and his or her physical location is a city called broomfeild in the state of Colorado and his or her OrgAbusePhone is +1-877-453-8353 and his or her OrgAbuseEmail is *****@level3.com.--Fang 23 20:01, 21 March 2007 (UTC) :Lemme deal with this bastard once and for all, then...--Mr A. 20:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I just spoke with one of the persons there, and they said to install a filter to filter out these IPs.--Mr A. 20:13, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Also I’ve done more investigation into this and I’ve found out that based on the similarities of the ip addresses and the fact that they bolth show up with the same isp and the same physical location that the long term vandal on wikipedia who in may to march to June 2006 repeatedly removed images from comic articles in wikipedia may also be the same person as the 4.xxx Troll-Vandal on evo wiki. [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Long_term_abuse&oldid=61697664#4.244..2A..2A --Fang 23 20:33, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Spam bots

Why do the spammers and spambots create articles solely for the purpose of spamming now instead of adding spam links to existing articles like they did before in 2004-2006?--Fang 23 19:57, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I guess they've changed tactics and programs, unfortunately.--Mr A. 23:15, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

4.xxx

Yes i agree we need to do somthing about the impostor vandal but have you done somthing about the 4.xxx troll vandal yet?--Fang 23 01:06, 27 March 2007 (BST)

I don't know how to install filters on websites.--Mr A. 01:59, 27 March 2007 (BST)
Do you know who knows how to install filters on web sites? Does Steinsky know how to install filters on web sites?--Fang 23 02:06, 27 March 2007 (BST)
I don't know how to install filters on websites, no. I think Steinsky does. What about you?--Mr A. 03:25, 27 March 2007 (BST)
Sorry I don’t know how to install filters either but however I think we should talk to Steinsky about it and have Steinsky install those filters.--Fang 23 03:37, 27 March 2007 (BST)

213.5.xxx

It appears that vandalisms and trolling on paleos.org and Evo wiki caused by ip addresses in the 213.5.xxx range are actually all caused by the same person using a dynamic addresses because their edits such as these [1] [2][3][4] [5] [6] appear very similar and happen to belong to the same isp and also belong to the same country, city and physical location. a list of some of these ip addresses is shown below.

in evo wiki

and in paleos.org

And i have a way to stop this vandal and the 4.xxx vandal we can block all ip address beginning with 213.5 and all ip addresses beginning with 4.xxx.--Fang 23 18:29, 7 April 2007 (BST)

Well? What's stopping you? Let's do it then.--Mr A. 22:40, 7 April 2007 (BST)

blocking ip ranges

I think there is an easier way to block these vandals i asked the people at the wikipedia help desk abouthow to block ip ranges and they said you can use ip tables if your server uses Linux which can help block entire ip ranges very quickly.--Fang 23 02:08, 8 April 2007 (BST)

I don't have linux, unfortunately. Should we ask Steinsky?--Mr A. 02:09, 8 April 2007 (BST)
I have firefox but I don’t have Linux and yes we should ask stiensky.--Fang 23 02:13, 8 April 2007 (BST)

images

how do i upload images on this site?--Fang 23 15:27, 17 April 2007 (BST)

Underneath the search form, there should be a list of "toolbox" links, one of which is "file"--Mr A. 15:40, 17 April 2007 (BST)

it doesn’t work.--Fang 23 15:44, 17 April 2007 (BST)

Tom Kettenring

Are you sure this user is an impersonator vandal and should be blocked? It appears that this user was the author of a good article Subspecies‎ also did this user create the now deleted (vandal) article Vampires i cant find out my self because I am not a syops so I cant access the deleted pages history and I didn’t view the recent changes after the article was created and before it was deleted. If i can know whether Tom Kettenring created the vampire page or not i will be able to determine whether this user is an impostor vandal or not.--Fang 23 00:50, 9 May 2008 (BST)

Vandal is right. The Vampires article is nonsense. --tk 07:10, 9 May 2008 (BST)
I'm thinking that he put up Subspecies to fool us.--Mr A. 13:11, 9 May 2008 (BST)

Someone

Why did you ban User:Someone? Normally we do this for vandals only. Creationists who only edit discussion pages are fine - one can destroy their arguments there, as you did, and show the world how ignorant of science they are. I think that by banning such persons we would stoop to the level of CreationWiki.

So what is so bad about Someone? Did he make new articles that have been deleted, so I can only see his discussion edits? --tk 07:11, 22 August 2008 (BST)

Alternative to blocking Christians

On Atheism Wiki a vandal wrote,
Many atheists deny Gods existence yet in fact they are just scared because God is more powerful than they could ever be. So they just say there is none. In other words, atheists are pussies. I mean they're all fucked when they die anyways. So screw them they need not to be worried about. (Obscenities omitted)
[7]
I didn’t block him. Instead I wrote
Atheists are tough. We can face up to life’s problems without asking an imaginary friend to help us. You believe God let thousands of innocent men, women and children die in the Tsunami. If god is as powerful as you think then God could have saved the Tsunami victims. Instead God didn’t care about them. God let them drown. Do you trust a God like that? That doesn’t look like a very good friend to me.
[8]

That sad little Christian adolescent probably had to struggle with the Problem of Evil on his own. He probably was reluctant to ask Christian mentors about it because he didn’t want to own up to the obscenities. More importantly I haven’t had any more Christian vandals since then. Has it talked its way round Christian websites that Atheism Wiki really knows how to weaken a Believer’s faith? Proxima Centauri 15:50, 22 August 2008 (BST)
