About Me

I'm not really one to spend too much time talking about myself on a wiki, so I'll just say I'm here because I find the idea of a wiki defending mainstream science to be both worthwhile and interesting. Unfortunately, while that brought me to look at EvoWiki, the shoddy quality and numerous omissions are the reasons that I stayed. Of course, this is forgivable considering the size of the community (most of which I expect are inactive), but it was originally depressing nonetheless. I mostly hang out in the List of creationist arguments area, since I think that's probably the most important part of the project, and it's also the most obviously incomplete.

My Goals

Due to a couple of conversations about how to represent creationism on EvoWiki [1] [2] I've decided to write a small section clarifying what I would like to see this site become. I'd like this to be a site that I can link to in web forums to pre-refute just about any PRATT or creationist nonsense that pops up, but I want that to be done in a particular way. Accuracy is a must. Foul language, name-calling and unscientific statements and conclusions should be absent or nearly so. In short, I want a page that I can send to:

• adamant creationists, refuting most of what they say (though it won't change their minds)
• an intelligent middle schooler, helping them to understand complex scientific topics and immunizing them from creationist pseudoscience
• dear old granny (without fear)

I'd prefer not to see this site become:

• an atheist apologetics site
• a creationist bashing site (except carefully, in a few appropriate instances [3])
• a flame war (on non-talk pages)
• a list of evolutionist PRATTs and pseudoscience (yes, they do exist!)

I don't know how the owner(s) of this site or other contributors feel on the subject, but I thought I'd put this here as an explanation of where I'm coming from. This may help explain some of the edits I make or why I occasionally go off ranting over a single word here or there. :)
