Uracil

Uracil (2,4 dioxy pyrimidine) is an organic base used in many important biological molecules, including RNA.
In Watson-Crick base pairing uracil pairs with adenine.
When uracil pairs with a ribose sugar it forms the nucleoside uridine. Up to three phosphate groups can be added to uridine to form:
- Uridine phosphate (UMP) - a constituent of RNA
- uridine diphosphate (UDP) and uridine triphosphate (UTP) - used as energy carriers in some matabolic reactions (similar to Adenosine triphosphate)
