Triosseal canal

The triosseal canal is an opening through the pectoral girdle formed by the coracoid, scapula and humerus. It is used in birds to connect the supracoracoideus with the humerus.

The Triosseal canal is used as a route for the tendon of the supracoracoideus that loops through it and then inserts onto the head of the humerus. The canal is used as a sort of pulley, especially with the elongation of the coracoid that creates better leverage for this configuration.
