Trichoptera

Trichoptera, caddisflies. An enigmatic and ancient group of basal insects thought to be closely allied to Lepidoptera. The group is defined on the morphology of the wings and legs, and differentiated from Lepidoptera on the basis of mouthpart structure. There are approximately 1,000 species of Trichoptera.
