Transversion parsimony

In the cladistic analysis of gene sequences, transversion parsimony is a weighting scheme that assigns transversions a value of 1, and transitions a value of 0. This is done because transversions occur at a much lower rate than transitions, possibly leaving transversions bearing most of the phylogenetic information.
