The tibia (commonly known as the shin bone in humans) is the medial bone of the lower leg in most vertebrates, with the fibula being lateral to it. The tibia articulates (i.e. forms a joint with) the patella and femur superiorly and the talus bone inferiorly. The tibia also articulates with the fibula both superiorly and inferiorly.
