Thymine
From EvoWiki
Thymine (2,4-dioxy, 5-methyl pyrimidine) is an organic base found in many important biological molecules including DNA (but not RNA).
In Watson-Crick base pairing thymine pairs with adenine.
Thymine can join with a ribose sugar to form the nucleoside thymidine. Up to three phosphate groups can be added to thymidine forming:
- Thymidine phosphate (TMP) - One of the monomers in DNA
- Thymidine diphosphate (TDP) and thymidine triphosphate (TTP) - used in some metabolic reactions.
