This project [1] has produced and has sought signatures from over 10,000 members of clergy for An Open Letter Concerning Religion and Science [2]. This letter contains the basic statement: "We the undersigned, Christian clergy from many different traditions, believe that the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist. We believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge and achievement rests."

The project started in the fall of 2004, to prepare a statement in support of teaching evolution in response to a series of anti-evolution policies passed by the school board in Grantsburg, WI. The originator of the project appears to be:

Michael Zimmerman
Dean of College of Letters and Sciences
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh

In addition, on 12 February 2006 hundreds of churches participated in "Evolution Sunday" "making the statement that religion and science are not adversaries" through sermons and discussions. Various news reports [3] describe some of the 466 congregations [4] that participated. Links to sermons, articles and other resources can be found [5].
