Textbook disclaimers

Sometimes, creationists and other antievolutionists succeeded in making disclaimers obligatory in textbooks which play down the reliability and importance of the theory of evolution. These stickers often say things along the lines of evolution being "just a theory", ignoring the fact that it is a very powerful theory supported by a formidable amount of evidence.

It has often been suggested that, by the same token, a sticker should be inserted in every school book that mentions gravity that the law of gravity is false and we do not have a measurable or observable theory of gravity. Note a relativistic correction is needed for GPS satellites among other things.

An example of the Cobb County Board of Education sticker:

This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origins of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully and critically considered.
