Currently, the two responses contradict each other. Which is right? What is the connection to Mark Isaak's answers (in the External Links section)? --tk (t) 10:30, 15 Jul 2005 (BST)

I don't have a reference right now, but they're both sort of half-truths. The Sun, according to current models of stellar evolution is in its "main sequence", which is stable in a long-term way. However, it allows oscillation over time periods that are short relative to the star's lifetime (though they may be long for us). I think that, in fact, shrinkage which is attributed to such oscillation has been empirically observed. Perhaps someone knows a good place to find information on this?--Escuerdo (talk)
