8000 species? I thought the number was closer to 4500...

Ignoring that, there are some contradictions on this page, namely defining reptiles as including *all* descendents of the common ancestor of the turtles and lizards/snakes would include all birds and mammals, in which case the number of species listed is far too small. They definition either needs changed or the article needs to make clear that the discussion is from a cladistic perspective, so mammals are reptiles (and change the other content to match this).

There are several extinct orders not referenced in the box. --Suttkus 20:31, 28 March 2006 (BST)
