M. Pectoralis major is the principal humeral depressor muscle, responsible for effecting the power stroke (lowering the wings and generating thrust) in birds. It arises primarily from the caudal and distal sternum, furcula, and coracoclavicular membrane and inserts on the deltoid crest of the humerus.
