Equilibrium
I removed this:
- Meaningful measurements require that the atmosphere be in equilibrium. Dr. Willard F.Libby, the father of carbon dating, measured and found that C14 was being created 25% faster than it was decaying, but chose to treat those measurements as experimental error. Several researchers have confirmed a 25% difference. Without direct historical reference points having known C14/C12 ratios, most carbon dating is highly assumption-based and far from certain.
because it is false creationist propaganda. Carbon dating is gauged by dendrochronology - thus we know the concentration of C14 as a function of time, and we know which measurement can be associated with which time. --tk (t) 07:41, 18 July 2006 (BST)
This is not true.
Fortunately, one can find the true age of a piece of wood by counting its tree rings...
One can find out how old a piece of wood was when it died by counting its rings. One cannot find out how long ago before present it lived. The people who are contributing to this wiki the information about radiocarbon dating being corroborated by dendrochronology do not know what they are talking about. It doesn't work like that. Check the facts before you post them. --76.202.226.195 21:20, 26 May 2008 (BST)
