  1. This is incorrect because humans did not evolve from chimpanzees but instead humans and chimps diverged from the same common ancestor 7 million years ago in the late Miocene era.
  2. We know about several species of hominids from their fossils. Although such hominid species may or may not in fact be ancestors of Homo sapiens, they are certainly closely related to our actual ancestors. Examples include Homo erectus and Homo habilis.
  3. Humans are a species of ape.
