Saurischia Seeley, 1888, sensu Gauthier, 1986 "Lizard-like ischia"

Holophyly of Saurischia is underwritten by the following characters (after Dodson et al 1990):

a)Temporal musculature extends onto the frontal.

b)Lateral overlap of the quadratojugal on to the caudal process of the jugal.

c)Caudal cervicals elongate

d)Axial postzygapophyses lateral to the prezygapophyses.

e)Epipophyses present on the cranial cervical postzygapophyses.

d)Accessory intervertebral articulations present in dorsals.

f)Manus more than 45% length of the humerus and radius combined.

g)Manus asymmetric with digit II longest.

h)Proximal ends of metacarpals IV and V lying on the palmar surfaces of digits III and IV of the manus, respectively.

i)Pollex robust with broad metacarpal.
