Renowned ecclesiastical figure in Great Britain during the latter half of the 19th Century, who was among the first and most vitriolic public critics of Darwin's work. Wilberforce was a Bishop in the Anglican Church and a theological advisor to Queen Victoria, granting him significant preeminence. In his famous debate with Thomas Huxley, his lecture was prepared by none other than that other royal favorite, Sir Richard Owen.
