Robert Plot is recognized for describing the first material attributale to Dinosauria in 1677. Unfortunately, Plot thought the fossil--the distal end of a femur of a megalosaur--was in fact a fossilized human scrotum, which he presented in a book on the natural history of Oxfordshire.
