Subdisciplines of physics are:
- Atomic Physics
- Electromagnetism
- Mechanics

- Optics
- Quantum Mechanics
- Relativity
- Solid state physics
- Thermodynamics

Physicists sometimes claim that other sciences; like chemistry, astronomy, geology and biology; are also subdisciplines of physics. In one sense the claim is valid; these fields do depend on and use the fundamental principles and laws of physics. However, the approach and methods of those sciences are different and involve the application of the laws to complex subjects with the extension and development their own principles and laws.
