Pectoral girdle

The pectoral girdle (alternatively the shoulder girdle) refers to the region where the forelimb attaches to the body. It is composed of those bones that allow the attachment of the forelimb, including any that articulate with the skull or spinal column.

Bones of the pectoral girdle

In tetrapods, these bones may include:

• coracoid (in birds and reptiles)

• scapula

• clavicle, or if fused, furcula

• sternum

Other important aspects may include:

• glenoid

• triosseal canal
