Ornithodira sensu Gauthier, 1986

Common ancestor of Pterosauromorpha + Dinosauria and all descendant taxa. Note that holophyly of Ornithodira has been cast into doubt by data suggesting a general diapsid origin for pterosaurs predating the appearance of archosaurs. See Wild (1984) & Wellnhofer (1991).
