Claim

People who call themselves Christians but who don't accept creationism, such as theistic evolutionists, are seriously misguided. The same applies even to those who reject a particular interpretation of creationism such as young-earth creationism. The Bible does not allow such compromises.

Responses

  1. For theistic evolutionists, it is in fact the creationists that are misguided. Theistic evolutionist Christians do not need to contrive "proof" of their God. Their faith alone is sufficient. For them, attempting to "prove" the existence of God is what is misguided here ... it is insulting to everyone concerned.
  2. As for the Bible not allowing such compromises, the literal interpretation of the Bible is actually a very recent phenomenon, and was never a practice espoused by the ancients (the folks who actually wrote that book). When you also consider that the Bible has been translated numerous times, and that each translation has introduced error, either through honest misunderstandings or deliberate rewritings (both of which have been documented numerous times), a literal interpretation of such a work cannot possibly be what God intended.
  3. Doesn't the Bible, and Jesus, say alot about things like "not to pass judgement on others without being judged in return," or "love thy neighbor"?
  4. So, then, would those Christians who don't go about stoning pagans, other unbelievers, eaters of shellfish and wearers of polyester to death are also misguided compromisers?
