Neoliberalism
From EvoWiki
Neoliberalism is an extreme form of capitalism which is supported by many (but not all) conservatives. Despite being called "neoliberal", neoliberalism is often paired with social conservatism and repression. The ambigious term liberal in the world Neoliberalism refers to the type of extreme laissez-faire capitalism that was practised originally in the late 19th century. There were little or no restrictions on corporations so they were free to do what they pleased. Neoliberalism refers to the return to those conditions. Some conservatives have faulted Charles Darwin for the development of neoliberalism because they point to it as a form of social Darwinism where only the fit and strong survive. What they forget to realize is that Neoliberalism is supported by those on the right of the political spectrum and that most extreme capitalists are also social conservatives that believe in creationism and who want the status quo maintained (or want to return to the status quo ante.). Also, Social Darwinism is a misnomer because Charles Darwin did not come up with those theories. He never stated that morality should be drawn from nature, as nature is very cruel and brutal. Darwin was against the enslavement of others and was strongly opposed to slavery when slavery was the "in-thing" at the time. Given his opposition to slavery, it is unlikely Darwin would have approved of ruthless capitalism and social "darwinism" that takes advantage of the poor and weak.
