The miocene is an epoch in the neogene sub-era spanning from 24-6 mya. In the miocene the world assumed a nearly modern look. The first mice appear along with the first wolves. The common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees, toumai also appears in this epoch, around 7 mya in the late miocene.
