Mark Norell

Mark Norell is currently chairperson of the Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History. The primary focus of his research is in the phylogeny of Theropoda, particularly the derivation of birds. He is the codiscoverer of the alvarezsaurs Shuvuuia (Chiappe et al, 1998) and Mononykus (Perle et al, 1993), the first fossilized theropod embryo (Norell et al, 1994), and the famous nesting Oviraptor (Norell et al, 1995).
