Lucy's knee was found far from the rest of the skeleton

Claim

The knee of the "Lucy" fossil (the most complete Australopithecus afarensis fossil) was found over a mile away from the rest of the skeleton, so it can't be used as evidence that Lucy walked upright. That evolutionists have never admitted this fact in print shows their dishonesty.

Responses

  1. Johanson was discussing another A. afarensis knee and NOT that of Lucy that had been discovered in 1973.
  2. Lucy is not the only fossil example of A. afarensis in any case: other finds confirm the same basic knee structure, further undermining the accusation.
  3. Neither of Lucy's knee joints are complete (as her right femur and left lower legbones are missing): even so, the incompleteness of Lucy's does not detract from her scientific importance, nor does it somehow detract from the scientific data she has provided.
