Jon Ahlquist is a professor of Zoology at the University of Ohio, who specializes in molecular phylogenetics and ornithology, fields he combined in one of the most influential systematics treatments of Aves ever undertaken, in a joint study with Charles Sibley (See Sibley & Ahlquist 1990). The resultant phylogeny presented in Sibley & Ahlquist's work remains highly contentious, although even its skeptics, (e.g., Alan Feduccia), do not deny its importance. Ahlquist has also been involved in molecular clock studies on the rate of evolution in the major avian clades, and molecular phylogenetic studies of primates.
