Jennifer Clack is an expert on the origin and early evolution of tetrapods, and was catapulted into the limelight of this field with her discovery and description of the fabulous archaic tetrapod Acanthostega gunnari from the Upper Devonian of Greenland. This find and Clack's subsequent work on the specimen constituted a revolution in our understanding of the origin of tetrapods, unseating textbook orthodoxy in the matter which had prevailed since the days of A. S. Romer. Clack has also been intimately involved in the description of Pederpes finneyae, a marvelous specimen bridging the gap between the stem-tetrapods such as Acanthostega and Ichthyostega and more derived examples from the Carboniferous.
