Biography
Jared M. Diamond is currently Professor of geography at the University of California, Los Angeles and formerly professor of physiology at UCLA. He was awarded his Ph.D. in physiology and membrane biophysics in 1961 from Cambridge University.
Diamond is the author of several popular science books including the Pulitzer Prize winning Guns, Germs and Steel and The Third Chimpanzee, a book on human evolution.
Diamond's professional research interests include evolutionary physiology, and the biological regulation of nutrient transport, though he has also worked on ecology, ornithology (at the AMNH), biogeography and environmental health sciences.
Diamond also serves on the board of directors for the World Wildlife Fund and is currently working on a book named Ecocide.
