Imaginal disks are special tissues found within the bodies of insect larvae, ie, caterpillars, grubs, maggots, etc. When the larva becomes a pupa, or chrysalis, the larval tissues break down while the imaginal disks develop into the adult tissues, utilizing the nutrients released by the larval tissues' break down.
