Response

  1. This is essentially asking the same question as "where did people come from?", to which is answer is "evolution by natural selection".
  2. DNA is a molecule whose behavior is strictly in accordance with the laws of chemistry and physics. This being the case, what "information" needs to be "assembled" in DNA? Does DNA do anything that cannot be accounted for by the laws of chemistry and physics? If not, what's the point of invoking an extraneous and unnecessary factor such as "information" in the first place?
  3. The Ev program, by Thomas Schneider, shows exactly how information gain occurs in genetic control systems through the selective process. Information is measured using Shannon's measure. The paper and the program are available at http://www.lecb.ncifcrf.gov/~toms/paper/ev/
  4. This question is also tantamount to "How is a replicator possible?"
