Holophyletic

A Holophyletic taxon is one in which all descendants of a singular common ancestor are united into one lineage. It is synonymous with clade. The word "monophyletic" is often used in the same meaning, but is sometimes used in its old meaning where not necessarily all descendants need to be included, some authors prefer to use the term "holophyletic" to avoid misinterpretation.
