Hemiptera
From EvoWiki
Hemiptera, true bugs. Defined by the presence of hemilytra, the presence of modified, sucking mouthparts, and the modified metathorax in which a scutellum is present. The order, possibly polyphyletic, is enormous, with some 4,500 species worldwide, bracketing a disparate array of morphologically diverse forms, from stinkbugs (Pentatomidae) to water striders (Gerridae). Generally considered pestiferous as they are vectors of plant pathogens, numerous hemipteran taxa are the bane of farmers and gardeners.
