Gamete
From EvoWiki
A gamete is a sex cell - sperm or eggs. Gametes are produced by meiosis, a process which means that they are haploid (contain only a single set of chromosomes), where cells are usually diploid. In sexual reproduction gametes fuse to produce a zygote.
Gametes are usually extremely specialised cells. Sperm are small and have an extremely powerful flagellum (one of the few eukaryotic cells to possess one). Eggs are large cells, and often surrounded by other cells which provide the embryo with nutrients.
