The order Falconiformes comprises of four families of raptor, for a grand total of 290 species of birds. There is much controversy over whether the families Accipitridae, Pandionidae, and Sagittariidae should be placed in the order Falconiformes, and some taxonomists place these three families, with 220 odd species between them, in the order Accipitriformes.
