Claim

Evolution's materialism or methodological naturalism denies a role for God. "Methodological naturalism asks us for the sake of science to pretend that the material world is all there is." [Dembski, 1998]

Responses

  1. If God exists and is responsible for the existence of life on this planet, evolution merely tells us the method by which He did it. Evolution, as a scientific theory, has nothing to say about God's existence, non-existence, sovereignty, transcendence, et cetera.
  2. Evolution only indicates that life could have formed without help from a superior being. There is plenty of space left for God, or gods.
  3. This claim is based on the assumption that there must be a role for God, which is a mighty assumption indeed.
  4. Real science is inherently based on methodological naturalism because this is the only material that can be objectively studied. Anything beyond naturalism depends solely on faith and has no objective reality (by definition) that can be studied.
  5. Many religions accept evolution.
