Emmanuel College
From EvoWiki
Emmanuel College is a non-denominational Christian secondary school in Gateshead, England, which sparked a very short lived debate in 2002 because it chose to teach Creationism. Emmanuel College is a "City technology college", a category of schools which are independent but state funded, making the creationism issue a public one.
In Britain, schools must teach a national curriculum but, unless explicitly prohibited, they are allowed to teach anything else as well as the curriculum. Creationism is not a prohibited topic, mainly because fundamentalism and creationism were never issues before Emmanuel college.
The school is partially funded by the creationist Vardy Foundation who hosted lectures at the college advising teachers on how to make students doubt the theory of evolution, importing the American creationist tactics.
