Edwin H. Colbert, of Columbia University and Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History, was one of the most influential vertebrate paleontologist and authorities on Dinosauria. Colbert produced a formidable body of work during his career and prolific author, describing dozens of new taxa and authoring major systematic reviews (e.g., his 1948 review of ceratopsian phylogeny). Colbert was also a friend of the great Henry Fairfield Osborn, the individual most directly responsible for catapulting the AMNH to its vaunted position.
