Donald Johanson, one of the world's most well recognized paleoanthropologists, is credited with discovering Australopithecus afarensis in two finds in 1973 and 1974 (the last one was the famous "Lucy"). The Institute of Human Origins, which he founded, has led expeditions into Africa which recovered, among other things, OH 62 (a Homo habilis specimen with relatively complete limbs) and a series of additional Australopithecus material.
