The talus (also referred to as the astragalus) is a medial tarsal (ankle) bone, which articulates with the tibia and fibula superiorly at the ankle joint. It also, in many tetrapods, articulates with the calcaneus and, in some mammals (such as primates), the navicular bone.
In Dinosauria, it is the larger of the two posterior tarsal elements.
