Arothron is the genus of "fat puffers," a large group of marine pufferfish of the family Tetraodontidae. Species are found throughout the IndoPacific, primarily in reefs. They feed primarily on invertebrates, particularly small molluscs and crustaceans, though they have been observed grazing algae on rocks and coral, as well as nipping at coral polyps. The fat puffers are popular aquarium pets, as many hobbyists are enthralled by their "cute" expressions that are enhanced by their ability to blink, as well as their ability to vocalize grunting noises made by grinding their beaks. The genus' main claim to fame is that its members are among those used to make the infamous Japanese delicacy "Fugu." Recently, Arothon was split into two genera, Arothron, and Fugu. Fugu, in turn, had 25 of its 26 of its species, save for F. orbimaculatus, placed in the genus Takifugu.
